Let’s start this first blog post off with something sweet and delicious—sugar biscuits!! :)

This recipe is not only super simple and quick, but the result is absolutely delicious (trust me on this one). These biscuits will be a great addition to your movie marathon evening, a juicy tea session, or even as a good Christmas gift (who doesn’t love sweet, homemade treats?).

You only need a handful of ingredients for this recipe. Most of these will be somewhere in your pantry already, so you most likely won’t even need to go to a grocery store!

Ingredients:

  1. Flour (all-purpose) - 250 grams
  2. Butter - 150 grams
  3. Sugar - ½ cup
  4. Vanilla sugar - 1 packet
  5. Baking powder - 1 tablespoon
  6. Egg - 1
  7. Salt - ½ teaspoon

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Lay out all your ingredients on the counter, especially the butter and egg. It’s crucial to let them warm up to room temperature (about 15 minutes). The butter will become easier to work with, and the egg will blend more smoothly into your dough.

Step 2: Mix the Flour, Salt, and Baking Powder

Mix the flour, salt, and baking powder. Whisk it a little to blend evenly—then let’s move on to the fun stuff!

Step 3: Cream the Butter and Sugar

Ensure your butter is at room temperature so it’s more moldable. Use a fork to mix the butter and sugar until well combined. Roll the butter in the sugar before mixing to make the process smoother. Mix until you have a creamy paste.

Step 4: Add the Egg and Vanilla

Crack in the room-temperature egg and add the vanilla sugar to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until everything is well combined.

Step 5: Combine the Dry and Wet Ingredients

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter, sugar, and egg mixture. Mix until you don’t see any more dry flour spots. It will be crumbly, but that’s the texture we want. It will mould easily into a ball due to the butter!

Step 6: Chill the Dough

Roll the dough into a ball and refrigerate for about an hour. If you’re short on time, you can leave it overnight (I once left it for 10 hours, and it turned out just as delicious).

Step 7: Roll the Dough

Divide the dough into four pieces and roll each one out separately. Keep the thickness consistent for even baking. Sprinkle flour on your surface and rolling pin if needed. Get creative—use cookie cutters for shapes or a knife for fun designs.

Step 8: Bake at 180°C for 15 Minutes

Bake for 15 minutes, or until the biscuits turn a light golden brown around the edges. Don’t worry if some come out a bit darker—they’ll still taste amazing with a slightly caramelized flavor.

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Sugar Biscuits:

  1. Room Temperature Ingredients: This ensures a creamier texture and makes the process smoother.
  2. Chilling the Dough: This step firms the butter and hydrates the flour, preventing the biscuits from spreading too much in the oven.
  3. Readiness Test: Gently press the edge of a biscuit—if it feels firm and bounces back slightly, it’s done.
  4. Prepare in Advance: You can store the dough in the freezer for weeks. When ready to bake, unthaw it in the fridge overnight.

Decorations and Alterations:

  1. Add some cinnamon for an extra flavor twist or swap vanilla sugar for orange or lemon zest for a refreshing taste.
  2. After cooling, dust the biscuits with powdered sugar or dip them in white or milk chocolate for a sweet upgrade.

Enjoy these delicious sugar biscuits!
